Oct. 4th – Congratulations, You Did the “Rite” Thing!

2019 NDEAM Celebration:
Right Talent, Right Now!

October is here, and once again we are celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness Month (#NDEAM). Reflecting a commitment to a robust and competitive American labor force, the 2019 National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) theme is “The Right Talent, Right Now.” Observed each October, NDEAM celebrates the contributions of workers with disabilities and educates about the value of a workforce inclusive of their skills and talents.

Please help us in highlighting the accomplishments of all people with disabilities who are employed or have their own business by submitting success stories.  We had a great response last year, and are now in search of more great stories as well as updates!

Success stories can be submitted through the following link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/666Z55P.

October 4, 2019 – Congratulations, You Did the “Rite” Thing!

Karis

After graduating from Gratz High School Karis was very shy and was unsure what job she wanted to do. About four years later a job opportunity opened up at a ShopRite in the Roxborough area. Karis went on the interview and was hired to bag groceries, return items, and stock / reorganize the shelves. Karis had her struggles, including a temporary loss of her job due to changes in management and difficulty with transportation. After new management took over, Karis was able to advocate for a more flexible work schedule to accommodate her transportation to and from work and was re-hired. Once back, she was more determined than ever, and willing to show everyone that she could do the job.

Karis has been successfully employed at Shop Rite for about 19 years. She has received awards for her years of service at Shop Rite, and her employer was given an award at Brighter Futures for their dedication and commitment to providing jobs for people with disabilities. Karis has a good rapport with her supervisors, co-workers and customers. She is well known throughout the store and greets everyone in a pleasant manner. Karis enjoys receiving a paycheck and spending money as she chooses.

Karis takes pride in her work and enjoys her job. She has no interest in leaving. She has proven to everyone who doubted her that she could work and be successful.

CONGRATULATIONS KARIS!!! YOU DID THE “RITE” THING!!
