Celebrating Our Successes!
Reflecting the important role that different perspectives play in workforce success, this year’s National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) theme is “Inclusion Drives Innovation.” Observed each October, NDEAM celebrates the contributions of workers with disabilities and educates about the value of a workforce inclusive of their skills and talents.
The Philadelphia “Employment 1st, Employment NOW!” Steering Committee is celebrating this year’s event with a month of employment success stories. Each day you will be receiving an email containing a new story about someone who is contributing to their community through employment. We invite you to join us as we celebrate their successes!
Dedication, Loyalty, & Commitment
Matt, better known to everyone as Matty, graduated from Philadelphia Academy Charter High School (PACHS). While a student, his teacher arranged for Matt to experience internships in local businesses. Matt interned for Partnership for Community Supports and also for Academy Injury, a physical therapy rehabilitation center. Upon graduation, Matt was hired at Academy Injury.
During his internship at the rehabilitation center Matt stood out to the staff as being a very fast learner. The staff report that “Matt is well-trained, qualified, and brings to the job unsurpassed loyalty, dedication and commitment. In other words he gets the job done, and stays on the job.” Academy Injury wrote that Matt’s honesty and pure view of life brought the staff reminders about why we are all on this earth. They shared that when “Matt is in the office he changes the dynamic in a positive manner that cannot be trained or taught to anyone.” Matt has been working for Academy Injury in the office where he organizes and files medical records. He has been employed for 3 years and no longer needs any job support.
