October 18 – Brenda Walker (NDEAM Success Story)

Celebrating Our Successes!

Reflecting the important role that different perspectives play in workforce success, this year’s National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) theme is “Inclusion Drives Innovation.” Observed each October, NDEAM celebrates the contributions of workers with disabilities and educates about the value of a workforce inclusive of their skills and talents.

The Philadelphia “Employment 1st, Employment NOW!” Steering Committee is celebrating this year’s event with a month of employment success stories. Each day you will be receiving an email containing a new story about someone who is contributing to their community through employment. We invite you to join us as we celebrate their successes!

Reliable and Friendly

Brenda Walker has been supported by KenCrest since 2013. She was recently hired by ACME as a bagger, and is very excited and committed to being a great employee. Brenda celebrated the grand opening of the new store on September 8th. The grand opening featured a visit from the Phillie Phanatic, food samples, raffles, and many deals throughout the store including 99 cent package of 30 eggs! Brenda was very focused, and shared in the enthusiasm of the many district and area managers, customers, and fellow employees. Brenda always shows up early for work and her managers definitely notice her dedication. She’s been working 20 hours a week and is very reliable and friendly. We see a great future for Brenda.
