October is here, and once again we are celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness Month (#NDEAM). Reflecting a commitment to a robust and competitive American labor force, the 2019 National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) theme is “The Right Talent, Right Now.” Observed each October, NDEAM celebrates the contributions of workers with disabilities and educates about the value of a workforce inclusive of their skills and talents.T
Please help us in highlighting the accomplishments of all people with disabilities who are employed or have their own business by submitting success stories. We had a great response last year, and are now in search of more great stories as well as updates!
Success stories can be submitted through the following link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/666Z55P.
October 24, 2019: Back on Track… & Moving Forward! – Andrew V.
Sometimes our journey gets interrupted. Today’s story emphasizes the importance of never giving up.
Andrew has always been goal-oriented, driven and determined in what he wants to do for himself. He has been employed in various environments including where he went to school – Bucks County Tech – and at Home Depot. Andrew has had a lot of unexpected life moments within the last year that derailed his employment goals at times. Andrew and his supporters came together to regroup and help him focus on specific skills and talents he had. With their support Andrew is now pursuing trade school to learn carpentry. He also obtained his learner’s permit with the hope of driving to and from work.
For now, Andrew works at Action Pack, Inc., a food packaging company, where he was hired in June of 2019 to do custodial work and maintenance. His supervisor states that Andrew has a strong work ethic and is considering offering him a full-time position. Andrew would still like to one day work in building trades and the construction industry. We wish you well, Andrew!
